Presentation Descriptions

You can help bring the voices of Afghan Women to your community and at the same time raise money for their benefit by sponsoring Peggy to bring her exhibit, Women of Afghanistan, Portraits and Stories, and/or give her presentations in your city.

The exhibit consists of 22 portraits accompanied by each woman's biography and some excerpts from her interview. You may see samples of the exhibit on this website.

In addition, Peggy offers two digital slide shows as well as other presentations. The first, Spirit of Afghanistan, shows scenes from the places she visited around Afghanistan, including Taloqan in the north, Herat in the west, and Bamyian, the place where the Buddhist statues were blown up. Inside of Kabul, she has a section on the woman's prison and another on schools in addition to images that give the viewer an idea of what the city is like. Maps and aerial shots give one a sense of place and geography. One of Peggy's aims for the presentation is to dispel several myths about the country and society such as the difference between Islamic Fundamentalism and Traditionalism, stereotypes about Afghan men, the issue of the burka and more. She also gives a brief history of the country as well as a discussion of issues related to its development. Interspersed throughout the program are the faces and stories of some of the amazing women she met. She would like her viewers to come away with an appreciation of the complexity of the country and the notion that whatever any of us have experienced or know about the area, it is only a small part of reality. This presentation is best given in an hour and a half, which leaves time for questions.

The second slide show, Women of Afghanistan, is focused on the women themselves. With just enough "scene setting" images to give a context to the faces, Peggy will talk about each woman's story and some of the issues she faces. The women come from many walks of life: wealthy and poor, educated and illiterate, young and old as well as representing a variety of ethnic groups. Peggy asked them questions such as: What have you learned from your difficulties? What would you say to George Bush if you could talk with him? What part of Islam has helped you the most? What about Islam is best for women? and How can women in the West best help Afghanistan? Included in this presentation is also the section on women in prison in Kabul. This presentation can be given in either a half hour or an hour format.

A twenty-minute verbal presentation, Stories from Afghanistan, is illustrated by six portraits from the main exhibit. In addition to a brief background on the country, stories of the six women and a few others are given along with an update on the current situation.

New this year: The great interest Peggy has seen in how she went about doing The Afghan Women's Project led her to develop a 15-hour workshop, Change Your World and a one-hour lecture, Success: What it takes to be successful when you work for yourself (And we ALL work for ourselves).

Inspired to bring peace and understanding in the world, Peggy created The Afghan Women's Project. Working to overcome her own feelings of powerlessness, fear and inexperience, she refined techniques that contributed to her own development as an effective and powerful person and which also resulted in a project that touches thousands of viewers as they experience their connection with people across the globe.

Peggy realized that she could exponentially increase her ability to create positive change in the world by sharing her experiences, techniques and insights with others so they can become creators of their own successful projects and make a difference in the world!

Change Your World Workshops lead participants in developing their own projects, large or small. Participants will learn and practice their skills as they crystallize their vision, and create a mission statement, an elevator speech, and action plan to realize their dreams. They will also learn about networking--it's more than just passing out business cards--, mentoring (and being a good mentor-ee) as well as fundraising. In addition, personal issues that often undermine even the best of plans are addressed with suggestions and exercises for dealing with them. Included are: overcoming rejection and discouragement, building up courage, tackling procrastination, facing poverty consciousness, letting go of misplaced guilt, and preventing burnout. Exercises are designed to deepen one's experience and provide a fun learning atmosphere. The workshop ends with a Mastermind group session where Peggy and each participant add their expertise and feedback to each person's project. Participants can expect to come away with an action plan for their project and the tools and resources to help them successfully realize their current dream as well as future ones. A 80-page workbook is included.

The Change Your World Workshops held on weekends can be divided into two six-hour sessions with an initial session on Friday evening. Workshops are limited to 10 participants. Private workshops are also available. The workshop and/or Success lecture are a great adjunct to the other two presentations about Afghanistan and the women there as they lead people to take action effectively.

All shows will be customized for your audience.
